The first condoms become available in pharmacies, post offices and are sold by pedlars.

1955

The first diaphragm is produced by the Sava Kranj factory.

1958

The co-ordinated sexual education for youths and adults begins.

1962

The first contraceptive paste is produced by the Lek factory.

1964

The contraceptive pill available at the Gynaecological Clinic in Ljubljana.

1974

The right to freedom of choice in childbearing is inscribed into the Constitution of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia.

1983

The Gynaecological Clinic in Ljubljana is among the first clinics in the world to carry out a successful IVF insemination.

1984

The birth of the first twin girls conceived with biomedical assistance at the Gynaecological Clinic in Ljubljana.

1991

The right to freedom of choice in childbearing is successfully defended and laid down in Article 55 of the Constitution of the independent Republic of Slovenia.

2001

A referendum on the procedures of artificial insemination denies the right to these procedures to single women and lesbians.

2002
2006

The right to free-of-charge abortion is successfully defended.

2013
2016

The right to free-of-charge contraception is successfully defended.

2023

Abortion, artificial insemination and sterilisation become fully covered by compulsory medical insurance.
