REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS:
On Health, Sexuality and Equality of Women

Reproductive rights are pivotal for achieving gender equality in modern societies. They include the right to a satisfying and safe sexual life and the individuals’ right to make informed decisions about their bodies, health care and the freedom to give birth without fear, discrimination or violence. This year it has been fifty years since the former Republic of Yugoslavia, as the first country in the world, adopted into its Constitution Article 191: the right to a freedom of choice in childbearing. Feminist movements in history have played – and still play today – a central role in fighting for the preservation and expansion of reproductive rights. This exhibition presents the key milestones in the history of reproductive rights in Slovenia regarding: contraception, abortion, sexual education, artificial insemination and parenting rights, and violence in reproductive health. By presenting important milestones the exhibition raises awareness, informs and offers insight into feminist struggles for reproductive rights that are the basis of gender equality. The term woman includes all persons who identify themselves with that gender, while the exhibition only partly encompasses sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

The online version of the exhibition complements the exhibition in physical form taking place from May 7 to 20, 2024 in several locations in the centre of Ljubljana.

We warmly invite you to come and see the exhibition!
